Think Fruit and Wine and then think Witzenberg. Yes, this is the origin of the best of South Africa's fruit and wine products. But that's not all that is produced here. The area is also well known as an olive and grain producing area, as well as for cattle, dairy products and game farms.
From the northern end of the Tulbagh Valley, to the southern area of the Tulbagh Valley past Wolseley, into the top end of the Breede Valley, then up Mitchell's Pass into the Ceres valley and the warm Bokkeveld , on and up the Gydo pass and into the Koue Bokkeveld and and the Tanqua Karoo. This is Witzenberg.
Then the land of the Khoisan peoples and those hunter gathering peoples known as the Bushman, who left behind their heritage of Rock Art paintings depicting their life-style. Many examples of Rock Art paintings can be found the the area near to the little hamlet of Op Die Berg which lies on the plateau above the Ceres and Tulbagh Valleys, in the area known as the Koue Bokkeveld - an area of extreme rugged beauty. Now the land of their great, great, Grand children and all the other peoples of this Rainbow Nation which is South Africa.
